
Crown won by R. Silyn Roberts (1871-1930) for his poem ‘Trystan ac Esyllt’ (Trystan and Isolde) at the National Eisteddfod held in Bangor, 1902. As well as being a poet, a minister and a social reformer, R Silyn Roberts was the first Honorary Curator of this museum. He was an extra-mural tutor at Bangor College and, in 1925, he established the North Wales District of the Workers’ Educational Association. He was a passionate believer in providing educational opportunities for adults. The crown was designed and made by R. L. Rathbone.
